China Cuts Back On Coal

Originally posted on Pretending Not To Panic:

China may have already hit peak coal production.

Coal output last year fell 2.5% to 3.87 billion metric tons compared with a year before, while coal consumption fell 2.9% in the period, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

In the race against climate change, some first hints of good news will be changes in slope, from using more to using less. The next bit of good news is when the usage drops below critical limits which are different for every country and region. A step in the right direction. Of course, it may be because an economic slowdown, but that’s another story.
